Selling a business or handing services to a client requires a formal change, not a shared password.
WHY IT MATTERS
Whoever holds the registered account is our customer. We take instructions from them and can discuss the account with them. Informal handovers leave the previous holder still able to request changes and the new holder unable to prove entitlement. This causes serious disputes, particularly over domains.
THE PROCESS
- The current holder opens a ticket from the registered email requesting the transfer, naming the new owner and listing exactly which services are involved.
- We contact the incoming owner to confirm acceptance.
- We verify both parties. For higher-value accounts or domain registrant changes this may include identification.
- We make the change and confirm to both.
DOMAINS NEED SEPARATE ATTENTION
Changing the account holder does not change a domain's registrant at the registry. Registrant changes follow the registry's process and, for some extensions, trigger a transfer lock. Say if domains are included.
WHAT NOT TO DO
Do not simply hand over the login. If the relationship later sours, neither party can demonstrate entitlement and we cannot adjudicate between them.
