Images at volume.

THE SCALE PROBLEM

A shop with two hundred products has hundreds of images.

Unoptimised, that makes every category page slow.

WHAT TO ESTABLISH

A standard size for product images A standard size for thumbnails A compression setting A consistent background and framing

Doing this once saves rework later.

WHAT SIZE

Product images around 1,000 to 1,500 pixels is usually sufficient, including for zoom.

Thumbnails at the size actually displayed.

FOR ZOOM FEATURES

They need a larger image, and only load it when the visitor zooms.

Check that yours does not load the large version on every page.

FOR BULK OPTIMISATION

A plugin that compresses on upload prevents the problem recurring.

Back up before bulk-processing an existing library.

WHAT ELSE AFFECTS SHOP SPEED

The number of products shown per category page.

Twenty is usually enough. A hundred is slow and nobody scrolls that far.
