Reading the report.

WHAT THE SCORE IS

A summary. Useful for tracking change over time, not as a target in itself.

A site scoring moderately and loading quickly for real visitors is fine.

WHAT TO LOOK AT INSTEAD

Total page size Number of requests Largest files Time until content appears

TOTAL PAGE SIZE

The single most useful number. Under a megabyte is good. Several megabytes is a problem.

Images are almost always the largest part.

NUMBER OF REQUESTS

Each file is a separate request. Dozens of small files is slower than a few large ones.

THE LARGEST FILES

The report lists them. That tells you exactly what to fix first.

Usually images, then scripts.

WHAT THE RECOMMENDATIONS MEAN

Many are technical and marginal. Focus on the ones naming large files.

WHAT TO ACT ON FIRST

Anything over a few hundred kilobytes.

Fixing the three largest files frequently halves the page weight.
