What it knows and how.

FROM TRAINING

Very large amounts of text, collected up to a point in time.

Books, websites, articles, code, conversations.

WHAT THIS MEANS

It knows what was written down and included.

Subjects with a great deal written about them are known well. Obscure and local subjects are not.

IT IS NOT LOOKING ANYTHING UP

Unless the tool specifically has search, it is not consulting anything when you ask.

It is generating from learned patterns.

WHY THAT MATTERS

There is no source to check. The answer was constructed, not retrieved.

WITH SEARCH

Some tools retrieve current information and cite it.

That substantially reduces fabrication, and the sources still need reading.

WHAT IT DOES NOT KNOW

Your business, your documents, anything after its training cutoff, anything private.

WHAT YOU CAN GIVE IT

Documents and context. Answers grounded in those are far more reliable.
