Pictures that help rather than decorate.

WHAT WORKS

Photographs of your actual work Photographs of your actual team and premises Product images that show the product clearly Images that explain something text cannot

WHAT DOES NOT

Stock photographs of generic business people Images chosen to fill space Decorative images that slow the page and say nothing

Stock photography is recognised instantly and reduces credibility. A real photograph taken on a phone is worth more.

PRACTICAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Natural light near a window A plain uncluttered background The subject filling the frame Consistent style across the site

SIZING

Resize before uploading. A photograph straight from a phone is far larger than any web page needs.

Around 1200 pixels on the longest side is plenty for most uses.

COMPRESSION

Compress every image. Uncompressed photographs are the most common cause of a slow site.

ALT TEXT

Describe the image. It serves people using screen readers and helps search.
