Stale content costs you.
WHAT GOES OUT OF DATE
Prices Opening hours Staff names Services you no longer offer Contact details References to dates and years Anything mentioning a specific version or product
WHY IT MATTERS
A visitor who finds an old price and then hears a different one does not trust the rest of the site.
An out-of-date site signals a business that may not still be operating.
A ROUTINE
Quarterly: check prices, hours, contact details, and anything seasonal
Annually: read the whole site as a visitor would
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Copyright dates in the footer, frequently years behind. Automate it or remove it. "Coming soon" from three years ago. A news or blog section whose last post is from 2021, which is worse than having none. Team pages listing people who left.
THE BLOG PROBLEM
An abandoned blog is a visible signal of neglect. If you will not maintain it, remove the dates or remove the section.
THE EASIEST WIN
Check your footer, your prices and your opening hours today. Those three are wrong on a surprising number of sites.
