Multi-Currency and Selling Internationally Print

Selling beyond Nigeria brings several decisions.

CURRENCY

WooCommerce displays one currency by default. Multi-currency requires an extension, which either converts at a live rate or lets you set prices per currency.

Displaying prices in a customer's currency improves conversion. Whether you can settle in that currency depends on your payment gateway.

THE GATEWAY QUESTION

Check what your gateway actually supports. Paystack and Flutterwave are built around African markets; international cards may work but settlement and fees differ.

If a meaningful share of your sales will be international, you may need a second gateway.

SHIPPING

International shipping rates, customs documentation and delivery times all need working out before you offer it. Underestimating international delivery cost is a fast way to lose money on every order.

TAX AND DUTIES

Customers may be charged duty on arrival. Say so clearly, or expect refused deliveries and complaints.

THE PRACTICAL APPROACH

Start domestic. Add international when domestic demand is established and you have capacity to handle the complications.
