Photographs sell the product. Everything else supports them.

THE BASICS

Natural light near a window beats a flash A plain background, white or light grey The same angle and framing for every product, so the shop looks coherent

Several images: the whole product, a detail, and one in use or in scale

SIZES

Upload at around 1200 pixels on the longest side. Larger wastes bandwidth; smaller looks soft when zoomed.

Set consistent dimensions under WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Image sizes, so the catalogue grid aligns.

FILE SIZE

Compress before or after upload. ShortPixel, Imagify or the optimiser in LiteSpeed Cache handle this. Product pages with uncompressed photographs are the most common cause of a slow shop.

Enable WebP where your optimiser supports it.

PRACTICAL POINTS

Name files descriptively before uploading: blue-cotton-shirt.jpg, not IMG_4471.jpg

Fill in alt text, which helps search and accessibility Photograph the actual item you will ship, not a stock photo, where honesty about condition matters

Product images accumulate quickly. Watch your disk usage.
