When your account moves to a different server, devices may need attention.

WHAT USUALLY CHANGES

The server's IP address, and sometimes the server hostname.

WHAT USUALLY DOES NOT

mail.yourdomain.com, which follows your domain. If your clients use that hostname, most will continue working with no change once DNS updates.

WHEN YOU MUST ACT

If your clients were configured with the old server's hostname, such as one taken from a welcome email, rather than mail.yourdomain.com. Those will stop connecting.

Update the incoming and outgoing server fields on every device to mail.yourdomain.com.

CERTIFICATE WARNINGS AFTERWARDS

Run AutoSSL on the new server, covering the domain and its mail subdomain, then reconnect.

CHECK AFTER MIGRATING

Every device sends and receives Webmail loads Mail sent before the move is still present in IMAP folders SPF and DKIM are correct on the new server, under cPanel > Email Deliverability

DO THIS PROMPTLY

A device that cannot authenticate retries continuously and will eventually trigger a firewall block on your connection.
