Setting Up Email in eM Client or Other Desktop Clients Print

  • businessemail, business, email, ssl, password, imap, webhosting, guide
  • 0

The settings are the same whatever the program.

WHAT ANY CLIENT NEEDS

  • Account type: IMAP
  • Incoming server: mail.yourdomain.com, port 993, SSL/TLS
  • Outgoing server: mail.yourdomain.com, port 465 SSL, or 587 with STARTTLS
  • Username: the full email address, on both incoming and outgoing
  • Password: the mailbox password
  • Outgoing authentication: enabled, using the same credentials

IN EM CLIENT

Menu > Accounts > Add Account > Mail. Enter the address, and when automatic setup fails choose to configure manually. Enter the values above.

IN MAILBIRD, BLUEMAIL AND SIMILAR

The wizard differs but asks for the same six things. Look for an option labelled Manual, Advanced or Other rather than accepting the automatic guess.

WHY AUTOMATIC SETUP OFTEN FAILS

It relies on published configuration records that shared hosting does not generally provide. Manual setup takes two minutes and works first time.

IF THE CLIENT INSISTS ON DETECTING

Enter the server hostname from your welcome email rather than mail.yourdomain.com, which sometimes satisfies a stricter certificate check.
