The same process as iPhone, with a screen large enough to make it easier.

THE STEPS

  1. Settings > Mail > Accounts > Add Account > Other > Add Mail Account.
  2. Enter name, full email address, password and a description.
  3. Tap Next, and expect the automatic detection to fail.
  4. Select IMAP.
  5. Incoming Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com, username the full address, password as set.
  6. Outgoing Mail Server: the same hostname, and enter the username and password even though iPadOS marks them optional.
  7. Save.

AFTERWARDS

Settings > Mail > Accounts > your account > Account > Advanced. Confirm SSL is on and the incoming port is 993.

Return to the account screen, tap SMTP, then the primary server, and confirm SSL with port 465.

THE USUAL FAILURE

Leaving the outgoing username and password blank. Mail then arrives but will not send.

USING IT ALONGSIDE A PHONE

Both devices can use the same mailbox over IMAP. Folders, read status and sent items stay in step automatically.
