Outlook on macOS differs enough from the Windows version to need its own steps.
THE STEPS
- Outlook > Settings > Accounts > Add Account.
- Enter the email address and click Continue.
- When it fails to detect the settings automatically, choose IMAP/POP manually.
- Incoming server: mail.yourdomain.com, port 993, SSL enabled.
- Outgoing server: mail.yourdomain.com, port 465, SSL enabled.
- Username on both: the full email address.
- Add Account, then close.
AFTERWARDS
Tools > Accounts > Advanced to confirm the ports stayed as you set them. Outlook for Mac sometimes reverts to its own guess.
COMMON PROBLEMS
- Repeated password prompts: remove the saved entry from Keychain Access, then let Outlook ask again.
- Mail received but not sent: outgoing authentication was not enabled. Tick "Use same settings as incoming server".
- Folders missing: Outlook for Mac subscribes selectively. Right-click the account and use Folder > Subscribe.
IF IT REMAINS AWKWARD
Apple Mail handles our settings more predictably on macOS. Unless you need Outlook specifically, it is worth trying.
