Shared hosting enforces an hourly limit on outgoing mail.

WHY IT EXISTS

Every account on a server shares an outbound reputation. One account sending spam gets the server's address blacklisted, and everyone's legitimate mail starts landing in spam. Limits stop that before it spreads.

WHAT COUNTS

Mail from your mailboxes, mail sent by your website, and mail generated by any application on the account.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE LIMIT

Sending pauses until the hour rolls over. Messages queue rather than disappearing, but delivery is delayed.

IF YOU HIT IT ROUTINELY

You are probably sending campaigns through hosting, which is the wrong tool. Move bulk sending to a dedicated provider.

IF YOU HIT IT WITHOUT SENDING CAMPAIGNS

Your account is almost certainly compromised, or a form is being abused. Open a ticket rather than asking for a higher limit; a limit raised on a compromised account simply produces more spam.

PLANNING AROUND IT

Transactional mail from a normal business site sits well inside the limit. Order confirmations from a busy shop may not; tell us your expected volume and we will advise.
