Extra addresses that reach an existing mailbox, without creating another account.
ALIASES
Create a forwarder pointing at an existing mailbox. Mail to the alias arrives in that mailbox.
Useful for campaign addresses, department names, or catching common misspellings of a real address.
PLUS ADDRESSING
Where supported, mail to [email protected] arrives at [email protected]. Nothing needs creating first.
Use it to tag where an address was given out: you+newsletter@, you+supplier@. If one starts receiving spam, you know who leaked or sold it, and you can filter or block that tag.
Test it before relying on it, since some sending systems reject addresses containing a plus sign.
FILTERING ON THE TAG
Set a filter in webmail to move mail addressed to a particular alias or tag into its own folder. That keeps one mailbox usable for several purposes.
A NOTE ON CATCH-ALL
A catch-all accepts mail to any address at your domain. It sounds convenient and is a spam magnet. Create the addresses you need instead.
