THE OPTIONS
Client holds their own account. They earn rewards on their own spend; you may earn a referral reward where the programme includes referrals. You hold accounts for clients. You earn on the spend, but you carry payment risk and the accounts are yours. Reseller hosting. You buy one package and sell to clients at your own prices, keeping the margin continuously.
THE ARITHMETIC
Reseller margin almost always exceeds rewards on client spend. If you host more than a handful of clients, reseller is the model built for it.
Rewards suit a designer who refers clients and does not want to hold their accounts or handle their support.
WHAT NOT TO DO
Do not hold client accounts under your own name purely to earn rewards. It creates ownership disputes when relationships end, particularly over domains, and the rewards are worth far less than the trouble.
Register domains with the client as registrant regardless of any rewards consideration.
