Domain forwarding sends anyone who visits one domain straight to another. It's the right tool when you own several names but run one site.

Common uses.

  • You own yourbrand.ng and yourbrand.com.ng and want both to land on one site.
  • You've rebranded and want the old name to keep working.
  • You've registered a common misspelling so those visitors still arrive.

Method 1:  redirect in cPanel. If the domain points at our nameservers and is added to your hosting account:

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Redirects.
  2. Choose Permanent (301) unless the change is genuinely temporary.
  3. Select the domain, enter the destination URL, and choose whether to redirect with or without www.
  4. Click Add.

Method 2:  park the domain instead. If you want the same website to appear under both names rather than a redirect, add the second domain as an alias (parked domain) sharing the same document root. See the article on addon domains, subdomains and parked domains.

Method 3: a DNS-level redirect. If the domain isn't attached to a hosting account, we can set a URL forwarding record from your client area under Domains > My Domains > Manage DNS.

301 or 302? Use 301 (permanent) when the move is final , it passes search ranking signals to the destination and browsers cache it. Use 302 (temporary) only for a genuinely temporary campaign, since a cached 301 is hard to undo.

Note on email. Forwarding the website does nothing to email. If you want mail to [email protected] to keep arriving, you need MX records and either mailboxes or forwarders on the old domain as well.
