The part after the final dot is the extension, or TLD. Different extensions have different rules, prices and audiences.
GENERIC EXTENSIONS
.com: the global default, and what most people assume .net, .org: general purpose, .org often associated with non-profits though not restricted .info, .biz: available where .com is not, but less trusted by visitors
NIGERIAN EXTENSIONS
.ng: the country code, short and increasingly used .com.ng: commercial, the most common Nigerian business choice .org.ng, .net.ng, .edu.ng, .gov.ng: categorised, some with eligibility requirements
Some .ng registrations require documentation and may not be instant.
NEWER EXTENSIONS
.shop, .online, .app, .dev, .africa and hundreds of others. Some are useful and memorable. Others look unfamiliar to customers and may be treated with suspicion.
PRACTICAL ADVICE
Register the extension your customers will assume, and consider registering the obvious alternatives to protect the brand, redirecting them to your main site.
Check renewal prices as well as registration prices before choosing an unusual extension. Some register cheaply and renew at many times the price.
