Using Gmail with your own domain.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Using the Gmail interface to send and receive mail from your own address.

WHAT TO SET UP

Adding your address as an account within Gmail.

WHAT TO ENTER

Incoming server details for collecting mail Outgoing server details for sending as your address

THE OUTGOING PART

Important. Without it, replies are sent from your Gmail address rather than your business one.

Customers then see the wrong address.

WHAT TO CHECK AFTER SETUP

That replies come from your business address That your business address is the default for that account

THE DELIVERABILITY CONSIDERATION

Sending through Gmail's servers as your domain requires your authentication to account for it.

Check that SPF includes what is needed.

FOR BUSINESS USE

Consider whether routing business mail through a personal account is appropriate.

Records, access and continuity all become tied to that account.

WHAT TO BE CAREFUL WITH

Losing access to the personal account takes the business mail with it.

WHAT TO PREFER

A proper client connected directly, or webmail.
