The technical signals.

WHAT IS REQUIRED

Each version must declare which language and region it serves, and point at its alternatives.

WHY

Without it, search engines may treat versions as duplicate content or show the wrong one.

WHAT THE SIGNALS DO

Tell search engines that these pages are equivalents in different languages, so the right one is shown to the right visitor.

WHAT MUST BE CORRECT

Every version listing every other version, including itself Consistent language and region codes A default for visitors who match nothing

WHAT GOES WRONG

Versions listing some alternatives and not others Wrong codes Signals pointing at pages that do not exist

WHO HANDLES IT

A multilingual plugin, usually, and verify rather than assume.

HOW TO CHECK

Search Console reports problems with these signals.

FOR REGIONAL VERSIONS IN THE SAME LANGUAGE

Equally important. English for Nigeria and English for Ghana need distinguishing.

WHAT TO VERIFY

That each version is indexed separately and correctly.
