Producing and encountering false content.

WHAT HAS CHANGED

Producing convincing false content is now cheap: text, images, audio, video.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Seeing is no longer believing. Neither is hearing.

WHAT YOU SHOULD NOT DO

Produce content designed to mislead Generate fake reviews or testimonials Create images presented as photographs of real events Generate quotations attributed to real people Produce material impersonating anyone

WHY THESE MATTER

Beyond the ethics, most are unlawful in many jurisdictions and all destroy credibility when discovered.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ENCOUNTER SUSPECT CONTENT

Check provenance: where did it come from, who posted it

Look for independent reporting Be sceptical of anything surprising or emotionally charged

WHAT DOES NOT WORK

AI detection tools. Unreliable in both directions.

Do not accuse based on a detection score.

FOR BUSINESSES

Verify anything unusual, particularly requests involving money.
