Who controls the account.
THE RULE
Business accounts belong to the business, registered with a business email address.
Not a personal account belonging to an employee or a contractor.
WHY IT MATTERS
An employee leaves and takes the account with them.
A contractor holds the account and will not release it.
Both happen, and both are avoidable.
HOW TO DO IT PROPERLY
Register with a business email address on your own domain Use the platform's business tools to grant access to individuals Ensure more than one person in the business has administrative access
FOR CONTRACTORS
Grant them access to the business account. Do not let them create it under their own.
Remove access when the engagement ends.
WHAT TO PUT IN WRITING
That the accounts belong to the business, and what happens at the end of an engagement.
IF AN ACCOUNT IS IN SOMEONE ELSE'S NAME
Resolve it now, while the relationship is good.
Platforms have processes for disputed business accounts, and they are slow.
RECORDING IT
Which accounts exist, the registered email, and who has access.
