Monitoring Your Resource Usage Print

Resource Usage shows whether your account is hitting the CPU, memory or process limits of your plan. It is the first place to look when a site is slow or intermittently returning errors.

READING IT

  1. In cPanel open Resource Usage under Metrics.
  2. Click Details for graphs over time.
  3. Look at which limit is being hit, and when.

THE LIMITS

  • CPU: processing time. Hitting it makes everything slow.
  • Physical Memory: RAM. Exceeding it kills processes mid-request, often showing as a 500 error or a white page.
  • Entry Processes (EP): simultaneous requests. Hitting this returns 508 Resource Limit Reached to some visitors.
  • I/O and IOPS: disk throughput and operations.

INTERPRETING THE PATTERN

A daily spike at a fixed time is usually a backup or cron job. Constant low-level saturation usually means no caching, or an inefficient plugin. Sudden sustained load often means bot traffic or a brute-force attack. Check Metrics > Visitors.

WHAT TO DO

Enable caching, set backups to run weekly at a quiet hour, remove heavy plugins, and block abusive bots. If usage remains high after that, the site has outgrown the plan. Open a ticket and we will recommend the right upgrade.
