IP Blocker stops specific addresses or ranges from reaching your sites at all.
BLOCKING AN ADDRESS
- In cPanel open IP Blocker under Security.
- Enter the IP address, a range (192.168.0.1-192.168.0.40), or CIDR notation (192.168.0.0/24).
- Click Add.
Blocked visitors receive a 403 Forbidden.
WHEN TO USE IT
A single address hammering wp-login.php or a form. A scraper consuming bandwidth. A persistent spam source identified in your logs.
FINDING THE ADDRESS
cPanel > Metrics > Visitors shows recent requests with their IP addresses. Metrics > Raw Access gives the full log for deeper analysis.
LIMITATIONS
Attacks usually come from many rotating addresses, so blocking them one by one rarely wins. For sustained attacks, Cloudflare's firewall in front of the site is far more effective. Blocking a whole country's range will block legitimate customers too. Be careful not to block your own address. If you do, you will lose access to your own site until you remove the entry from cPanel, which you can still reach from another network.
