cPanel includes Apache SpamAssassin, which scores incoming mail and acts on the score.

ENABLING IT

  1. In cPanel open Spam Filters under Email.
  2. Switch "Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam" on.
  3. Set the Spam Threshold Score. 5 is the default. Lower catches more spam but risks catching legitimate mail. 3 is aggressive; 8 is lenient.

WHAT TO DO WITH SPAM

Spam Box: delivers suspected spam to a separate folder you can review. This is the safer option and is what we recommend.

Auto-Delete: discards mail above a score you set. Only use this at a high threshold such as 8, and understand that deleted mail cannot be recovered.

WHITELIST AND BLACKLIST

Under Additional Configurations, add trusted senders to the whitelist so their mail is never filtered, and add persistent nuisance senders to the blacklist.

IF LEGITIMATE MAIL IS BEING FILTERED

Raise the threshold, whitelist the sender, and check your Spam folder before assuming a message was never sent. Review and empty the Spam folder regularly, as it counts against your disk quota.
