MX records tell the internet which server handles email for your domain. Getting this wrong stops mail arriving.
IF YOUR EMAIL IS HOSTED WITH US
Leave the MX records as they are. cPanel sets them correctly when the domain is added, pointing at our mail server.
IF YOU USE GOOGLE WORKSPACE OR MICROSOFT 365
Two things must be changed, and people frequently do only the first:
- Replace the MX records. In cPanel open Zone Editor, delete the existing MX records for the domain, and add the ones your provider supplies with their stated priorities.
- Change the email routing. In cPanel open Email Routing, select the domain, and set it to "Remote Mail Exchanger". If this is left on Local, our server keeps delivering mail to a local mailbox instead of sending it to Google or Microsoft, and your messages vanish into a mailbox you never check.
CHECKING THE RESULT
Use Track Delivery in cPanel, or an external MX lookup tool, to confirm the records are live. Allow up to a few hours for propagation.
Also add your provider's SPF record, and remove ours, or outgoing mail may fail authentication checks.
