Use the exact settings cPanel generates for your account rather than guessing.
FINDING YOUR SETTINGS
cPanel > Email Accounts > click "Connect Devices" beside the mailbox. The page lists the correct hostname, ports and an automatic configuration option.
TYPICAL SETTINGS
- Incoming server: mail.yourdomain.com
- IMAP port: 993 with SSL/TLS
- POP3 port: 995 with SSL/TLS
- Outgoing server: mail.yourdomain.com
- SMTP port: 465 with SSL/TLS, or 587 with STARTTLS
- Username: the FULL email address
- Password: the mailbox password
- Authentication: required for outgoing mail
IMAP OR POP3?
Choose IMAP. It keeps mail on the server and in sync across your phone, laptop and webmail. POP3 downloads and usually deletes, which loses messages when you use more than one device.
COMMON PROBLEMS
- Cannot send: outgoing authentication is off, or port 25 is blocked by your network. Use 465 or 587.
- Certificate warning: use the server hostname from your welcome email rather than mail.yourdomain.com until AutoSSL has issued for the mail subdomain.
- Login rejected: you entered only the part before the @ instead of the full address.
