FileZilla is a free FTP client for Windows, macOS and Linux, useful when you are moving many files at once.

SETTING UP THE CONNECTION

  1. Download FileZilla Client from filezilla-project.org (the Client, not the Server).
  2. Open Site Manager and click New Site.
  3. Enter: Host: yourdomain.com (or the server hostname from your welcome email) Protocol: FTP - File Transfer Protocol Encryption: Require explicit FTP over TLS Logon Type: Normal User: your cPanel username, or an FTP account you created Password: the matching password
  4. Under the Transfer Settings tab, set Transfer mode to Passive.
  5. Click Connect. Accept the certificate warning on first connection.

USING IT

Your computer is on the left, the server on the right. Navigate to public_html on the right and drag files across. The queue at the bottom shows progress and any failures.

IF IT WILL NOT CONNECT

Check passive mode is enabled, as active mode fails behind most routers. Repeated failed logins trigger the firewall. Open a ticket with your IP address to be unblocked. Try port 21 explicitly if the default fails.
