Working with one archive is faster and far more reliable than moving hundreds of individual files.
COMPRESSING
- In File Manager, select the files or folders you want.
- Click Compress in the toolbar.
- Choose Zip Archive (most compatible) or Tar.gz (better compression for large sites).
- Confirm the archive name and location, then click Compress Files.
This is the quickest way to take a manual backup of a site folder before making changes.
EXTRACTING
- Select the archive.
- Click Extract.
- Confirm the destination path. It defaults to the current folder.
- Click Extract Files.
NOTES AND LIMITS
Very large archives can time out during extraction. If a multi-gigabyte archive fails, split it or open a ticket and we will extract it from the server side. Extracting does not delete the archive. Remove it afterwards so it does not consume your disk quota. Extracting over existing files overwrites them without a prompt in some cases. Compress the current version first if you might need to go back. Watch your disk usage during this. An archive plus its extracted contents temporarily takes double the space.
