Menus control your site's navigation. How you edit them depends on your theme.

Classic themes

  1. Go to Appearance → Menus.
  2. Click create a new menu, give it a name, and click Create Menu.
  3. From the left panel tick pages, posts, categories or custom links and click Add to Menu.
  4. Drag items to reorder. Drag an item slightly to the right underneath another to make it a dropdown item.
  5. Under Menu Settings tick a display location such as Primary Menu, then Save Menu.

Block themes

Newer themes use Appearance → Editor. Open a template, click the Navigation block, and add or reorder links in the block settings panel. Remember to click Save at the top right.

Tips

  • Keep top-level items to around five or six — long menus overwhelm visitors and wrap badly on mobile.
  • Use Custom Links for external pages or anchor links such as #contact.
  • If a menu item does not appear, check that a display location is selected and saved.
