Menus control your site's navigation. How you edit them depends on your theme.
Classic themes
- Go to Appearance → Menus.
- Click create a new menu, give it a name, and click Create Menu.
- From the left panel tick pages, posts, categories or custom links and click Add to Menu.
- Drag items to reorder. Drag an item slightly to the right underneath another to make it a dropdown item.
- Under Menu Settings tick a display location such as Primary Menu, then Save Menu.
Block themes
Newer themes use Appearance → Editor. Open a template, click the Navigation block, and add or reorder links in the block settings panel. Remember to click Save at the top right.
Tips
- Keep top-level items to around five or six — long menus overwhelm visitors and wrap badly on mobile.
- Use Custom Links for external pages or anchor links such as
#contact. - If a menu item does not appear, check that a display location is selected and saved.
