You get the machine and root access. Everything else is yours: operating system updates, security patching, firewall configuration, web server setup, backups, monitoring, and fixing it when it breaks at an inconvenient hour.
Cheaper, and appropriate if you have the skills and the time.
MANAGED
We handle the operating system, patching, monitoring and core services. You focus on your applications.
Costs more, and appropriate if server administration is not what you want to spend your time on.
THE HONEST QUESTION
Do you know how to secure a Linux server, configure a firewall, set up automated backups, respond to a compromise, and diagnose why a service stopped at two in the morning?
If not, unmanaged is a false economy. An unmaintained VPS is less secure than shared hosting, not more.
THE MIDDLE GROUND
Unmanaged with a control panel such as cPanel handles much of the routine work, though the operating system remains your responsibility.
