THE OLD POSITION
Before SNI, a server could present only one certificate per IP address. Each secure site needed its own address.
THE CURRENT POSITION
SNI is universally supported. SSL works perfectly on shared IP addresses, and has for over a decade.
WHAT THIS MEANS
You do not need a dedicated IP for SSL. AutoSSL issues free certificates on shared addresses that work identically to any other.
WHY THE ADVICE PERSISTS
Older articles remain online and rank well. Some providers still sell dedicated IPs on this basis.

None of these is about SSL.
IF SOMEONE TELLS YOU SSL REQUIRES ONE
Ask what specifically requires it. If they cannot say, the requirement is repeated advice rather than a real constraint.
