Knowing before your visitors do.
WHY IT MATTERS
An expired certificate blocks every visitor with a full-page warning. It is indistinguishable from the site being down, and it happens silently.
WITH AUTOSSL
Renewal is automatic, but it can fail. Failure notices go to your cPanel contact address, so keep that current and monitored, and on a domain we do not host.
Check cPanel > SSL/TLS Status monthly and confirm expiry dates are moving forward.
WITH PURCHASED CERTIFICATES
Set a calendar reminder a month before expiry. Do not rely on the authority's emails alone.
EXTERNAL MONITORING
Uptime monitoring services can check certificate expiry and alert you. Several free tiers include this.
For a business site this is worth having. It tells you independently of any system that might itself be the thing failing.
WHAT TO CHECK
Expiry date That the certificate covers all hostnames in use That the chain is complete
A MONTHLY HABIT
