What the process involves.
WHAT HAPPENS
After submitting the CSR, the authority verifies your organisation: company registration, registered address, and often a telephone call to a publicly listed number.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Business registration documents A registered address matching official records A listed telephone number they can verify Someone available to answer that call and confirm the request
TIMING
Days rather than minutes. Occasionally longer if documentation is queried.
Do not order one the week you need it live.
COMMON DELAYS
Company details on the order not matching the registration exactly No verifiable public telephone listing Nobody answering the verification call Documentation in a form the authority will not accept
WHAT IT GIVES YOU
A certificate asserting the organisation's identity as well as domain control. Browsers no longer display this distinctly, so the benefit is contractual rather than visible.
AFTERWARDS
Install the certificate and its intermediate bundle, and note the expiry in a calendar.
