BEFORE BUYING
Ask whoever set the requirement to state it precisely. Requirements are frequently less specific than they first appear, and "SSL certificate" usually means any valid certificate.
WHAT YOU TAKE ON
A purchased certificate does not renew itself. You must remember, generate a new request, obtain and install it, every year. A forgotten renewal produces a browser warning on every visit.
THE RECOMMENDATION
