The principle is the same; the tools differ.

THE APPROACH

  1. Back up the database.
  2. Identify where URLs are stored: content tables, settings tables, configuration files.
  3. Replace http://yourdomain.com with the https form.
  4. Update the application's configured base URL.
  5. Clear caches.

JOOMLA

Update the site URL in configuration, and use an extension or a database query to replace URLs in content. Check the template settings for hardcoded logos.

DRUPAL

Update the base URL in settings, and use a search and replace module for content.

LARAVEL AND CUSTOM APPLICATIONS

Set APP_URL to the https form. Check any place URLs are constructed manually rather than from configuration.

A better long-term fix is to use relative or protocol-relative URLs in templates, so the scheme follows whatever the page was loaded with.

STATIC SITES

Edit the HTML directly, or run a find and replace across the files.

SERIALISED DATA

If the application stores serialised data, use a tool that understands it rather than a raw replace.
