What AutoSSL Is and How It Works Print

  • sslcertificateshttps, ssl, domain, domainrenewal, subdomain, cpanel, dns, renewal
  • 0

The free certificate system built into cPanel.

WHAT IT DOES

Issues certificates for every domain and subdomain on your account, installs them, and renews them automatically before expiry.

HOW IT VALIDATES

It proves you control the domain by placing a file in a specific path on your site and checking that the certificate authority can retrieve it over HTTP. This is why the domain must resolve to our server before a certificate can be issued.

WHEN IT RUNS

Automatically on a schedule, and whenever you trigger it manually. Renewal happens well before expiry, so certificates do not lapse.

WHAT IT COVERS

The domain, its www form, and subdomains that exist in DNS and point here. Mail hostnames too, which is what allows mail clients to connect without certificate warnings.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

Issue certificates for domains that do not resolve to us Issue organisation or extended validation certificates Work through a proxy that blocks the validation path

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Usually nothing. Point the domain here and run it once. It manages itself from then on.
