The Domain Resolves to the Wrong Address Print

A DNS lookup returns an address that is not your server's.

WHAT IT USUALLY MEANS

The A record still points at a previous host The nameservers point at a previous host or at another DNS provider You updated records in cPanel while DNS is actually hosted at Cloudflare A dedicated IP was issued but the A record was never updated A propagation delay, and you are seeing a cached answer

HOW TO DIAGNOSE

  1. Look up the nameservers. Whatever they say is where your records live.
  2. Look up the A record and compare it with the address in cPanel.
  3. Check the record in whichever system the nameservers point at.

FIXING IT

Update the A record in the correct place. If the nameservers themselves are wrong, change those at the registrar first, and wait for propagation before editing records.

IF IT RETURNS CLOUDFLARE ADDRESSES

That is expected when the record is proxied, and not a fault.

AFTER FIXING

Verify with a lookup rather than by loading the site, since your browser may hold a cached answer for some time.
