A common expectation that leads to disappointment.

WHAT PEOPLE EXPECT

That moving to a dedicated address resolves mail landing in spam.

WHAT ACTUALLY DETERMINES DELIVERABILITY

Authentication: SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and reverse DNS

The From address being on your own domain Content and formatting

Recipient engagement: opens, replies, and the absence of complaints

Bounce rates Consistency of volume The sending IP's history

The address is one factor among many, and usually not the limiting one.

WHY A NEW DEDICATED IP CAN BE WORSE

It has no history. Receiving providers treat unknown addresses cautiously, and without a warming period mail may be filtered more heavily than it was on a shared address with an established record.

THE RIGHT ORDER OF WORK

  1. Fix authentication.
  2. Send from your own domain using authenticated SMTP.
  3. Clean your recipient list.
  4. Move bulk sending to a dedicated provider.
  5. Only then consider whether a dedicated IP adds anything.

Most deliverability problems are resolved at step one.
