IP addresses are loosely associated with geographic locations in commercial databases.

WHAT IT AFFECTS

Some services show visitors content based on the apparent location of the server or the visitor. Analytics tools estimate visitor location this way. Some fraud systems weigh the apparent location of a connection.

WHAT IT DOES NOT AFFECT

Your search rankings in any meaningful way. Search engines determine geographic relevance primarily from your content, your domain extension, your business information and signals you provide, not from where your server sits.

A .com.ng domain and locally relevant content matter far more than the physical location of the server.

ACCURACY

Geolocation databases are approximate. They are frequently wrong at city level and occasionally wrong at country level, particularly for addresses that have recently changed hands between providers.

IF LOCATION MATTERS TO YOU

For visitor experience, a CDN such as Cloudflare serves content from locations near your visitors, which addresses the real concern, distance and latency, far better than server location alone.

Do not buy a dedicated IP expecting a geographic or ranking benefit. It does not provide one.
