Rack orientation.

WHAT THE ARRANGEMENT IS

Racks placed in rows facing each other alternately.

WHAT THAT PRODUCES

Aisles where all equipment draws in cold air Aisles where all equipment exhausts hot air

WHY IT MATTERS

Equipment draws air from the front and exhausts to the rear.

If racks all face the same way, each row exhausts into the next row's intake.

WHAT THAT CAUSES

Rising temperatures along the room, and equipment failures at one end.

WHAT PROPER ARRANGEMENT ACHIEVES

Cold air reaching every intake at a consistent temperature.

WHAT UNDERMINES IT

Equipment installed backwards Gaps in rows without blanking Doors and openings allowing mixing Perforated tiles in hot aisles

THAT LAST ONE

Delivering cold air into a hot aisle wastes it entirely.

WHAT TO VERIFY

That every piece of equipment faces the correct direction.

WHAT TO MEASURE

Intake temperatures at the top, middle and bottom of racks.

WHY

Temperature varies with height, and the top is usually worst.
