Server Resource Limits: Everything That Matters, Briefly Print

The whole category in one page.

THE LIMITS

Processor, memory, entry processes, disk operations, inodes, disk space, bandwidth.

WHICH ONE SMALL SITES HIT FIRST

Entry processes, meaning simultaneous requests.

Slow pages occupy slots longer, so speed and this limit are directly connected.

THE FIRST ANSWER TO ALMOST EVERYTHING

Caching. It reduces every limit at once.

Verify it is actually working, not just installed.

THE SECOND THING TO CHECK

Bot traffic. On many small sites it exceeds human traffic and is invisible without looking at raw logs.

THE INODE TRAP

Files are counted, not sized.

Email and cache directories exhaust it while disk space looks fine.

The symptom is write failures on an account that is not full.

THE DISK TRAP

Backups generated and never removed.

A full account rejects incoming mail, which does real damage.

BEFORE UPGRADING

Enable caching, optimise images, control bots, clean up.

Then look again.

WHAT AN UPGRADE NEVER FIXES

A site that is slow because of how it is built.
