Every account you create gets a DNS zone, which you manage from WHM.
EDITING A ZONE
WHM > DNS Functions > Edit DNS Zone. Select the domain and edit the records.
COMMON TASKS
Adding an A record for a subdomain Adding MX records when a client moves email to Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 Adding TXT records for SPF, DKIM, DMARC and service verification Adding CNAME records for third-party services
WHEN A CLIENT MOVES EMAIL AWAY
Two changes are required, and people routinely make only the first:
- Replace the MX records with the new provider's.
- Set email routing to Remote Mail Exchanger, in the client's cPanel under Email Routing, or via WHM. If this is left local, the server keeps delivering mail into a local mailbox and messages vanish.
Also update the SPF record to authorise the new provider, and remove ours.
IF THE DOMAIN USES EXTERNAL DNS
If the client points at Cloudflare or another provider, the zone here has no effect. Changes must be made there. Check which applies before spending an hour editing a zone nobody consults.
