Clients move on. A clean handover protects your reputation.

GIVING THEM THEIR DATA

WHM > Backup > Download a Full Account Backup for that account, or generate one from inside their cPanel. Hand over the archive. Most hosts can restore a cPanel backup directly.

If their new host offers migration, they will usually ask for cPanel credentials. Provide them, or ask the client to authorise it in writing first.

DOMAINS

If the domain was registered through you, transfer it to the client or to their new registrar. Obtain and provide the EPP code, and unlock it.

A domain held hostage is the fastest way to earn a reputation you will not recover from, and in most cases the registrant is entitled to it.

SEQUENCE

  1. Provide the backup and any credentials needed.
  2. Let them set up elsewhere and test.
  3. They change nameservers.
  4. Wait a week for propagation and for email to settle.
  5. Then suspend, take a final backup, and terminate.

Do not terminate the moment they give notice. Overlap protects them and costs you nothing.
