Beyond WordPress.

WHAT APPLICATIONS TYPICALLY NEED

A single scheduled command run at a regular interval.

The application handles what to do from there.

WHERE TO FIND THE REQUIREMENT

The application's documentation, under installation or scheduling.

COMMON PATTERNS

A command-line script run every minute or every few minutes A maintenance command run daily A queue worker run frequently

FOR QUEUE-BASED APPLICATIONS

Some expect a persistent process rather than a cron job.

Shared hosting generally does not support persistent processes.

A frequent cron job is the usual workaround. Check what the application supports.

FOR FRAMEWORKS

Modern frameworks typically provide one scheduler command run every minute.

The framework then decides what runs.

WHAT TO VERIFY

That the task actually produces its expected effect.

WHAT TO ASK US

If an application requires something shared hosting does not provide.

Better to establish that before building on it.
