Private nameservers let clients point domains at ns1.yourbrand.com rather than at ours, so your hosting looks entirely your own.
WHAT YOU NEED
A domain you control, to base the nameservers on Your server's IP address, from your welcome email
THE STEPS
- At the registrar of your chosen domain, create glue records, sometimes called host records, child nameservers or registered nameservers, for ns1.yourbrand.com and ns2.yourbrand.com, both pointing at your server IP.
- In your own DNS zone for that domain, add A records for ns1 and ns2 pointing at the same IP.
- WHM > Server Configuration > Basic WebHost Manager Setup. Enter ns1.yourbrand.com and ns2.yourbrand.com in the nameserver fields and save.
- Open a ticket asking us to register the private nameservers against your account.
VERIFYING
Use a DNS lookup tool on ns1.yourbrand.com. It should return your server IP. Until it does, do not give the nameservers to clients.
IMPORTANT
If your account is ever migrated to a different server, the IP changes and both the glue records and the A records must be updated, or every client domain using them goes dark. Keep a note of where they are set.
