Inheriting someone else's work.
WHAT TO ESTABLISH FIRST
Where the domain is registered, and whether you can access it Where DNS is managed Where the site is hosted, and whether you can access it What platform it runs on
THE COMMON DISCOVERY
Nameservers pointing at a provider nobody remembers, with no access.
That is the problem to solve before anything else.
IF YOU CANNOT ACCESS THE CURRENT HOST
You may still be able to migrate if you control the domain.
Rebuild or restore from any backup, then point the domain here.
If there is no backup, an archive service may hold copies of public pages. That recovers text, not code.
WHAT TO RECORD BEFORE CHANGING ANYTHING
Every DNS record, by looking them up.
You will lose them when nameservers change.
WHAT TO CHECK IN THE SITE
Whether it is compromised What is installed Whether anything is out of date
WHAT TO DO AFTERWARDS
Document everything, so the next person is not in your position.
