When the control panels differ.

WHAT CHANGES

No single backup file carries everything.

Each part moves separately.

THE SEQUENCE

  1. Download all website files by FTP
  2. Export each database
  3. Download email by IMAP, per mailbox
  4. Record DNS records
  5. Note cron jobs and configuration
  6. Create the account here
  7. Upload files, create databases, import data
  8. Update application configuration
  9. Recreate email accounts
  10. Recreate cron jobs
  11. Test
  12. Switch DNS

THE DATABASE STEP

Export as SQL. Import through phpMyAdmin or ask us for larger files.

Update your application's configuration with the new database name, user and password.

Note that cPanel prefixes database names with your account username.

That is the most common cause of a site not working after migration.

THE EMAIL STEP

Set up both old and new accounts in a mail client and drag messages across.

Do this before the old hosting ends.
