Knowing when something is wrong.
WHAT TO MONITOR
Whether the server responds Whether your sites respond correctly Disk space Memory and load Failed login attempts Certificate expiry
THE DISK SPACE POINT
A full disk breaks everything, frequently in confusing ways.
Logs and backups are the usual cause.
Monitor it and alert before it is full.
WHAT MONITORING TELLS YOU
That something is wrong, early.
A server you check only when a customer complains is a server you find out about late.
WHERE TO SEND ALERTS
Somewhere you will see them, and not only to email hosted on the server being monitored.
If the server fails, that mailbox fails with it.
WHAT TO REVIEW REGULARLY
Logs, for anything unusual Resource trends, for anything growing
FOR SITES ON THE SERVER
Uptime monitoring that checks content, not just a response.
A site returning a database error still returns a response.
