A dedicated IP assigns your account its own address rather than sharing one with other accounts on the server.
WHEN IT IS GENUINELY USEFUL
A third-party service requires a fixed, unshared IP for whitelisting A specific application or compliance requirement calls for it You want mail-sending reputation independent of other accounts on the server, though a dedicated mail provider is usually the better answer
WHEN IT IS NOT NEEDED
For SSL. AutoSSL works perfectly on shared IPs, and has done for years. The old advice that SSL requires a dedicated IP is obsolete. For SEO. A dedicated IP does not improve search rankings. For general speed. It makes no difference.

THINGS TO BEAR IN MIND
A dedicated IP carries its own reputation. If you send mail badly from it, only you suffer, which cuts both ways. If your account is migrated to a different server, the IP changes and anything keyed to it needs updating. Any firewall rules or third-party whitelists referencing it must be updated at the same time.
